Anaheim II, California - Going into round five of the THQ
world Supercross series for Anaheim II, James Povolny was coming off two
previous rounds where misfortune and mistakes had him down. He hadn’t made a main event since he was in
Europe for the first two rounds of the series.
Anaheim II saw more of the same, when dicing in the last chance
qualifier for the lead, his own teammate Ted Campbell cleaned him out leaving
James on the ground and out of the main event for the third week in a row. Despite disappointment, James was still
upbeat and took the “that’s racing” approach.
Breaking it down, the fact that he hasn’t made a main event
in three weeks isn’t necessarily reason for panic, as James has traditionally
been a slow starter at the beginning of the year. Perhaps it’s been more frustrating for him this year due to the
fact that his training regimen had him and continues to have him in tiptop
shape. As the rounds continue on, I
expect steady progress from James that’ll put him in the main event every
weekend.
On a side note, James is still riding his Honda 450. It is taken him longer than he had planned
to get a 250 two stroke for testing. It
will probably materialize sometime after the San Francisco round of
Supercross. James plans to keep his
training regimen steady by continually working with his trainer Jim Delzer and
personal coach Dennis Medsker. Stay
tuned for up to date information.
