Torrance CA: Honda Red Bull Racing’s DaviMillsaps was back on top at round five of the 2010
AMA Supercross series at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, CA on Saturday,
February 6, winning aboard his CRF450R®. In wet, slippery racing
conditions, Millsaps dominated the Supercross
competition—rounding out the opening lap in second spot and moving up to
take the lead on lap three. Once out front the Honda racer never looked back,
clinching his first race win of the 2010 season.
“I’m so happy right now,” said Millsaps.
“I felt good coming into this event and did my best to be as prepared as
possible for whatever the wet San Diego race threw at me. I’m really
happy to put Honda Red Bull Racing on the podium two weeks in a row and there
is no better way to do it than with a win.”
Teammate Andrew Short was in second spot and hot on the trail of Millsaps when misfortune struck in the closing laps. The
Honda racer crashed hard when he came up short on a triple and required
trackside medical attention. Doctors later released Short from the medical
center and he will undergo further injury evaluations early in the week. Fellow
Honda racer GEICO Powersports Honda’s Kevin
Windham was in fifth and closing on the riders in front of him when he was
sidelined on lap 18.
In the Supercross Lites West competition, Troy Lee Designs/Lucas
Oil/Honda’s Cole Seely and Wil
Hahn put in solid performances on their CRF250Rs—challenging each other
and swapping spots throughout the race. In the end, Seely
held out Hahn to secure his career-best result in second place. Hahn finished
third. GEICO Powersports Honda’s Trey Canard
showed plenty of speed, jetting out of the start gate and grabbing the holeshot. But Canard crashed on the slippery terrain on the
opening lap, which moved him to the back of the field. He rallied hard in
difficult conditions and passed the bulk of the field, ultimately finishing a
solid sixth. Teammate Blake Wharton got a good start and was in second spot
when he went down—dropping him to 12th spot. Fighting back, Wharton recovered
to finish ninth.
“I made a costly mistake and had my work cut out for me,” said
Canard. “I was really fast out of the gate and was in the lead when I
crashed. You just can’t afford to do that at this level in the game
because there’s a lot of fast guys there ready
to take advantage of any mistakes you make. I want to be back on the box again
next week; especially for my team.”
