FRESNO, Calif. (February
27, 2010) – The 2010 AMA Arenacross Series’ West Coast debut was a
showcase evening for the AMA Arenacross and AMA Arenacross Lites class’
leading riders as the series made its second visit to Fresno’s Save Mart
Center. Babbitt’s Monster Energy/Ti Lube Kawasaki’s Tyler Bowers,
of Danville, Ky., returned to the top step of the podium in the premier AMA
Arenacross class, winning his seventh race of the season and extending his
points lead. In the AMA Arenacross Lites Western Regional Championship,
GPF/Babbitt’s Kawasaki’s A.J. Catanzaro, of Middlefield, Conn.,
maintained the momentum garnered over the past couple weeks to grab his second
victory of the year.
Spinechillers/Storm Lake
Honda’s Nathan Skaggs, of Chillicothe, Ohio, raced to the AMA Arenacross
class holeshot, but was quickly overcome by the
Babbitt’s Monster Energy/Ti Lube Kawasaki trio of Bowers and teammates
Chad Johnson, of Rhinelander, Wis., and Josh Demuth, of North Richland Hills,
Texas. The most dominant riders of the season went on to capture the team’s
fourth podium sweep of
2010 in that same order, relatively unchallenged by their competitors. After
eight rounds, the Babbitt’s squad has won 11 of the 12 races this season.
In what has turned
into an impressive rookie season, Catanzaro won the first race of his career
two weeks ago in Youngstown and backed it up with a third place finish last
weekend in San Antonio. On Saturday night, he dominated the AMA Arenacross
Lites main event, taking over the Western Regional Championship points lead
over Reynard Mods Kawasaki’s Cory Green, of
Nowata, Okla. Despite their best efforts to challenge for the win, Motorsport
Hillsboro Kawasaki’s Tiger Lacey, of Wolf Creek, Ore., and Green rounded
out the podium in second and third, respectively.
Bowers’
advantage over Demuth in the AMA Arenacross class standings sits at 17 points
while Johnson maintains contact just 21 points out of the lead.
Catanzaro’s Western Regional Championship advantage over Green sits at a
scant three points.
The 2010 AMA
Arenacross Series continues next weekend with the legendary ArenOcross
from Reno, Nev. And the Livestock & Event
Center at 7:30 p.m. ET.
