The subject of numerous advance mainstream press stories for
next week’s Glen Helen race, Wey comes into Pittsburgh riding high on another
solid AMA MX performance
CARLSBAD, Calif., (Sept. 1, 2005)
– Unbound Energy/MDK Motorsports’ Nick Wey returns to Steel City ready to
replay last year’s second moto performance – hopefully twice – as the AMA
Motocross Championship, presented by FMF, rolls into Pittsburgh for Round 11 of
the popular motocross series.
“Yeah, man, I was flat
out hauling in the second moto last year,” said Wey of his fifth place 250
class o/a in moto No. 2 at Steel City. “I’ve been racing at Steel City since I
was a kid and always enjoy coming back here. Hope to put my Unbound/MDK Honda
up in the top five for both motos this Sunday.”
Wey, who's dramatic
comeback story will be featured in a number of SoCal (his adopted home
state) newspapers prior to the final round of the series next week at Glen
Helen, is comfortably within the top ten overall 250 class standings this
summer despite missing the first two rounds recovering from major
reconstructive knee surgery. His progress has amazed everybody, including Wey
himself.
“If you’d have told me
that first morning doing rehab at (Jeff) Stanton’s house that I’d have
been pulling top 6-7 finishes and in the top ten in the standing heading into
Steel City I’d have thought you were crazy,” said Wey. “You know what I’m
sayin'?”
But hard work
rehabbing the knee, clean living and a LOT of motos have the super fast Wey
back on top of his game and challenging for the podium at the Nationals.
“Nick’s success story
is well-known throughout the industry,” said Scott Sepkovic of Crown Athlete
Management (Wey’s agency). “I use Nick as an example to all of the athletes at
Crown AMG as to what hard work and dedication can accomplish. And I’m looking
forward to seeing Nick put up his best numbers of the season this weekend at
Steel City.”
Unbound Energy is now
available in 16 oz. cans at BP and am/pm retail locations, with more locations
and Sugar-Free Unbound coming soon.
